RE: Sunset Beach, CA Who was there? Sept 6th

Scott,
That was me. We had 17 sites. It was my 40th B-day party. Should have come by later and joined the festivities. I thought I recognized your truck down at the beach parked by the bathrooms? You might have remembered a few of them from the Pismo trip.

Yes, added one to every camper. No reg needed (unless you're coming straight off a tank).

RE: Does anyone have

I have installed a few air-lift systems over the years. The first ones with the air lines in the cab, then the second ones with just the wires, and last night the first wireless one. I'm not sure of the cost, but I would think it is worth the extra money. The wireless one saved a lot of time from the installation end.

RE: Winegard Satellite system do they work???? Need your help

Ditto to what RenoAl says, but with the Jensen TV you need to change the input to (I think) AV2. I have to fool with the input button everytime, cuz we don't always use the DirectTV box due to trees.

RE: Anyone have a Gear Vendor Aux. trans installed?

I have one installed on a '06 550. It works great. My mileage goes up considerably when truck is empty, but when I'm fully loaded it's not a such a big difference.

RE: BIGFOOT OR LANCE

Before I bought my new Lance I was almost the proud owner of a Bigfoot. A friend of mine was selling an '04 with a slide. It was the biggest one Bigfoot offered 10.11E or something like that. It was a gorgeous camper and appeared to be every bit as good as any Lance I'd ever owned. I almost bought it, but I just couldn't get over the aluminum scissor steps to get in/out when the camper was on the truck. I think that clam shell design is awesome.
Good luck with the new camper...I think you'll be very happy with it.

RE: Best price, and setup recommendations for solar?

Wlauzon,
Sunday should be a nice sunny day here. I'll go out and get a few readings and then disconnect the 80 watter and see what happens. I'm planning on getting another 100 watt panel and by your calcs and advice I would guess that should be all the power I would need. Maybe the 80 watter will just sit up there for looks. I'll also measure the voltage on the stock panel.

RE: Best price, and setup recommendations for solar?

Sleepy,
I have both panels going to one combiner box that then goes to the contoller. All these measurements are from the digital display on the controller.
Wlauzon,
I have never seen anything even near 15...maybe I need to readjust the MPPT.

RE: Best price, and setup recommendations for solar?

Boatycall,
The 9.4amps is from 2 panels...the factory 80 watt and the AM Solar 100 watt. This number only exists for a few hours every day. The common numbers are 4 to 6 for non-peak hour, dropping to 0 towards sunset. These numbers are from the beach we camp at frequently. I know you'll like the solar, I'm just not sure how many panels you'll need to keep yourself happy.
Call AMSolar. I'm sure they can give you the info you need.
Here's a pic showing both panels. Factory one is right above the bed.

RE: Best price, and setup recommendations for solar?

Sleepy,
I've got a AM100-22B system. It's a 100 watt panel with the HPV-22B controller. I run the new panel with the factory 80 watt panel on a combiner I mounted on the aluminum mount for the factory panel. It seems to keep a good charge on my batteries in most weather. The controller has the normal buttons...voltage, array amps, charging amps, MPPT control, on/off, and a dry camp or shore power switch. The highest charge I see regularly (from about 12 to 4pm) is 9.42 amps. I mounted the new panel on the Yakima rack up top. I got the bar adapters from the local Yakima dealer.
I spoke with Dave at AMSolar a few times with questions and concerns and he was always helpful and knowledgeable. I think I got AMSolar's name from jimandsue and I think I got the mounting idea from Mooney. I had this system installed on my 1030 and then moved it to my 1131. I've had the system about 2 years.

RE: Parallel cabling of batteries

rmarshall,
That is a great link. I'm going to print out a few copies so I always have it handy. Back in the day, I had an old timer explain to me how to hook up multiple batteries correctly. He didn't have any diagrams or math to back up his suggestions, but what he said made pretty good sense. Since that time I have tried to explain this to various different people and they look at me like I'm from Mars. I can't wait to whip out this piece of paper and give them proof that there is a reason I do it that way.
Thanks

RE: Just Bought 2007 Ram 3500 DRW & 2008 Lance 1131

Like BTG said the carpet in the bathroom...bad call. See if you can get that changed. Other than that it is a nice camper with space for most everything. I wish it had the basement storage and bathroom in the 1181, but the trade off is, if you have kids...the tent is awesome!

RE: Moving battery(s) to generator compartment?

Guys,
On the Lance I owned and installed batteries in the genset compartment, the plastic bottom tray would probably not be adequate to hold the weight of the batteries. This may or may not be the case for you. Also on the Lance I owned, if it's genset ready the black and white #4's were not landed up front. You will need to at least check, but I bet you will need to find a home for these wires. I had to drill into the battery box and land these wires.
If they're all hooked up the gauge will meter all of them.

RE: F450 fuel mileage with a TC

I'm sure a GV will help your fuel economy out some. It's just getting past the intial expense. I have 4.88's, but with the 4.30's you'd have some pretty tall gears, probably around 3.55 to 3.73's.
Freeway only 65 to 75:
Truck only 19 to 20
Truck and camper basically averages to 12.2
Truck, camper, and boat 11.5. 10 on some of the long drawn out windy drives.
Around town a solid never changing 9.

RE: Moving battery(s) to generator compartment?

Solar is never a problem. On my Lance I had to find the genset wires under the sink and drill a hole into the battery cabinet to run in parallel, not hard to do but no easy task if you're a big guy. You can also use a Perko switch and isolate the batteries. You should probably buy 2 or 3 new batteries...same age, same type.
